Marietta Attractions

Whether you're new to the area or a resident of Georgia, Marietta is home to many entertaining, exciting, and historical attractions. You can easily (and affordably) spend a day enjoying the many sights and tastes that Marietta, a commercial hub of North Georgia, has to offer. The ideal location to begin any sightseeing journey is Marietta Square.

Originally the town square carried the name of Glover Square, donated by and named after the city's first mayor. These days, Glover Park is only a small portion of the town's ever-expanding square. This type of conversion is common in Marietta, as many of its historic buildings and locations have taken on new lives to serve its residents and sightseers alike.

Located in the heart of Marietta Square is the town Welcome Center, which was built in 1898 as the town's train depot. Also positioned nearby is Scarlett on the Square--the Gone with the Wind museum--which at one time served as a warehouse. In addition, the antebellum Kennesaw House is now the home of the Marietta History Museum, nestled alongside shops and restaurants in the core of downtown Marietta.

Also centrally located are the Marietta National Cemetery, Confederate Cemetery, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, and the Big Chicken, which stands high above a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. If Southern fast food isn't what you had in mind for down home country cooking, many fine restaurants can be found downtown, and the expansive and culturally diverse Harry's Farmers Market is only a short distance away.
