Welcome to Mechanicsville, PAThe village of Mechanicsville is located between Allentown and Trenton, Pennsylvania, approximately 41 miles north of Philadelphia. As part of the state’s treasured Bucks County—one of the three original counties, and named and settled by William Penn himself—Mechanicsville is a well-preserved historic community that was founded in the early 19th century by Thomas Walton, Charles Watson, James Shaw, and William Fell. With just seven lots comprising 116 acres, the four men advertised Mechanicsville as “a whole town...the new and thriving village of New-Work.” The name evolved into Newark, and then changed to Mechanicsville in 1830 when the post office was established. The village had become associated with artisans and tradesmen; in the first decades since its founding, Mechanicsville boasted five blacksmiths, four shoemakers, three carpenters, a wheelwright, a stone mason, and a tailor. In the late 1800’s, Mechanicsville’s Samuel Wilson Seed Company also contributed to the village’s local economic significance, as it was one of Bucks County’s primary seed suppliers.
