Relocating to Memphis, Tennessee

For those wanting to relocate to Memphis, is may come as a pleasant surprise that in a city with such a world-wide reputation, the real estate market isn’t clogged with over-priced homes. In fact, in 2007, Money magazine posted a list of the cities where real-estate buyers see their incomes go the furthest, and Memphis was ranked as #1 for having the most affordable homes. Real estate in Memphis comprises a variety of options from condominiums downtown to single family homes in quiet neighborhoods, and with a median home price of only $110,000, it’s easier than ever to move right in.

In the last couple decades, downtown living has been on the rise for singles on the go. One thing that makes downtown Memphis unique is that it is not only attractive to the jet-set types, but also to growing families. Downtown Memphis prides itself on having over 12 top-notch daycare and early education facilities. And the area provides plenty of kid-friendly recreation, including 300 acres of grassy park areas and the Mud Island River Park. When you look for real estate in downtown Memphis, there are hundreds of affordable condos and single-family homes to choose from.

If you prefer to live away from the city center, but still within reach, Memphis offers a variety of neighborhoods to fit your lifestyle. The Midtown area contains many historic neighborhoods, such as Vollintine-Evergreen, Cooper-Young, and Central Gardens. Central Gardens features elegant early 1900’s homes on quaint tree-lined streets, and is often listed in Memphis Magazine as being the best neighborhood in the city. All Midtown neighborhoods are in close proximity to the Memphis Zoo, Memphis College of Art, and the Brooks Museum of Art. Many of Memphis’ most prestigious homes are located in East Memphis, within the neighborhoods of Chickasaw Gardens and Cordova. These communities feature a mix of upscale and moderate homes, and contain several public parks and lakes, including the Memphis Botanic Garden and Audubon Park.
