Welcome to Morrison, COThe historical town of Morrison is located in Jefferson County, Colorado, just 18 miles southwest of Denver. Tucked away behind dramatic rock formations and sweeping views of the Rocky Mountain foothills, residents of Morrison enjoy the atmosphere of quiet seclusion, all the while reaping the benefits of being part of a major metropolitan area.
Despite having a small population of around 500 people, Morrison has much to offer visitors and new residents, from shopping and dining along Bear Creek Avenue to horseback riding throughout Jackson County. The town is most well-known worldwide for its Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, which is not only a stunningly beautiful outdoor concert venue that has welcomed international artists for over a century, but is also full of natural wonders with trails, wildlife, and scenic views in every direction. Morrison’s unique geological formations have brought many people to Morrison throughout the years; in fact, Morrison is located just west of “Dinosaur Ridge,” and is where the remains of two dinosaurs—a Stegosaurus and an Apatosaurus—were discovered in the late 19th century. The Morrison Natural History Museum houses exhibits and fossils from these digs and others, providing a hands-on educational experience for adults and kids alike. Other fun family attractions in Morrison are the Tiny Town & Railroad—the nation’s oldest kid-size village—and the Bandimere Speedway, an exhilarating NHRA drag racing facility.
