Located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Asheville and the surrounding area offers a world class selection of golf courses. The legendary golf course architect Donald Ross designed four courses in Asheville. The Buncombe County Municipal Golf Course was built in 1927 and remains virtually unchanged from Mr. Ross’ original design. The Grove Park Inn Resort course was designed by Mr. Ross in 1899 making it the oldest course in North Carolina. Featuring scenic views of downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is a Donald Ross masterpiece. The Country Club of Asheville was designed in 1928 by Ross. This private country club is located in north Asheville just 2.7 miles from downtown Asheville. The Biltmore Forest Country Club, designed in 1922, is truly the gem of Asheville’s Ross designed courses. Located within the exclusive community of Biltmore Forest, this private, members only country club is located on rolling hills and features beautiful mountain views. The club recently hosted the 1999 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
Asheville also offers courses deigned by some of the leading architects of today. The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is a Jack Nicklaus design located in a gated community just south of Asheville. A sister Cliffs’ course, slated to open in 2011, is the design of golf great Tiger Woods. The Cliffs at High Carolina is located just east of Asheville and will be Tiger Woods' first course in U.S.
Other courses in the area include Reems Creek Golf Club, High Vista Country Club, Broadmoor Golf Course and Etowah Valley Country Club.
