Welcome to Greensboro, North Carolina

Greensboro, North Carolina is a city full of opportunity and friendly people. It is north-centrally located within the state, which makes it perfect for those who like to travel. It's just over two hours to the ski slopes, about 3 ½ hours to Wrightsville Beach, and conveniently located only 75 miles west of Raleigh, 30 miles east of Winston-Salem and 90 miles northeast of Charlotte.

If you like to stay busy, Greensboro is the place for you. The only problem may be finding enough time to do all the things you want! This city has concerts, sporting events, museums, shopping for antiques, and art in the historic district on Elm Street. There is a major revitalization project that's underway now in the downtown area. If you walk down Elm Street, you'll feel as if you are in Manhattan. It's absolutely beautiful and bustling with activity. Restaurants in Greensboro are numerous (over 500!) as well as diverse and are a big part of our excellent nightlife. It's amazing how much the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department offers residents of all ages. There are 170 parks in Greensboro that have walking trails, mountain biking trails, playgrounds, and even the Bark Park for dogs and their owners! For those who like to shop, Greensboro offers Friendly Center and the Shops at Friendly with over 100 shops and restaurants. Other options include Four Seasons Town Centre, a three-level mall that consists of more than 200 stores and restaurants, and State Street Station, which has more than 40 specialty shops, boutiques, restaurants, and galleries. There are over a dozen public golf courses in the Greensboro area. The course at Grandover Resort and Conference Center has been ranked fourth in the category “Best Conditioned Courses in North America” by Golf Digest.

There are four major college teams within 90 minutes of Greensboro, as well as our professional football team, the Carolina Panthers. New to downtown in 2005 was First Horizon Park, home of the minor-league baseball team, the Greensboro Grasshoppers. We have Broadway musicals, sporting events, the annual Ideal Home Show at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, and plays at the Broach Theatre and Triad Stage downtown. This city also boasts the largest water park in the Carolinas.

While Greensboro offers a great quality of life to its residents, this quality has also helped attract big businesses to the area. Several Fortune 500 Companies have decided to plant their roots in this city, including American Express, Bank of America, and Tyco Electronics. The Dell plant is just outside Greensboro, and the FedEx hub will arrive in 2007. Many large businesses have also decided to have their corporate headquarters in Greensboro, including Banner Pharmacaps, VF Corp, Koury Corp., Lorillard Tobacco Co., Syngenta Crop Protection Inc., Volvo Trucks North America, and Pace Communications.

Greensboro has become a retirement destination for many because of the wonderful year-round climate. We enjoy almost perfect weather here. The average year-round temperature is 69 degrees, with an average of 4 inches of snow and 50 inches of rain annually. We have four distinct seasons without the temperature extremes typical of other areas. Five renowned healthcare systems and their allied specialized care facilities are located either in Greensboro or within an hour's drive away, giving the city an unmatched array of healthcare options. College students flock to the city for the many colleges and universities here, and then remain after graduation because of the numerous employment opportunities. Businesses move into the area to take advantage of the recent college graduates looking for employment, and the cycle is complete.

Greensboro is booming, and seems to truly have something for everyone!
