When its time to go outdoors and enjoy the beautiful North Carolina weather, Huntersville offers many parks and recreation centers for residents to use. The Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 173 acres of developed parkland and organizes classes, events and athletics for youth and adults alike. Huntersville boasts a family fitness center, as well as an outdoor water park with tube slides, water cannons, and pool jungle gyms. Golf lovers of all skill levels can find their favorite course with three to choose from in Huntersville—the private, NorthStone Country Club designed by PB Dye, the semi-private Skybrook Golf Club, and the daily fee course, Birkdale Golf Club, designed by Arnold Palmer. For a wilder outdoor experience, the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve features the Mecklenburg County’s largest green space with nature and equestrian centers, hiking trails, and opportunities for boating and fishing on Mountain Island Lake. Also, the Preserve boasts a unique raptor center for the rehabilitation of injured birds of prey. In addition to Huntersville’s recreational outlets, Lake Norman offers boating and fishing, hiking, camping, and more.
