Lansing, North Carolina is a busy hamlet of 155 residents within Ashe County. Its small downtown has a bank, hardware store, post office, small grocery, several antique stores, assorted other shops, as well as around the corner you’ll find the stone Lansing School, a WPA work project during the depression. The school is now home to the New River Winery, which is challenging the assumption that you can’t make wine at our elevation. Lansing was once on the route of the Virginia Creeper Railroad, and if you look carefully you’ll still see the railroad bed and trestle bridges along Big Horse Creek as it winds its way up to White Top Virginia. Lansing is a great convenience to residents of some of the far flung northern areas of the Ashe County, who come to Lansing for staples.
