About Raleigh, NC

Founded in 1792 and named for the English explorer and author Sir Walter Raleigh, the City of Raleigh is one of the country's most popular relocation destinations. Also known as the City of Oaks, Raleigh has beautiful residential areas, a wonderful parks system, and an educated and diverse population. With its moderate climate, Raleigh has become a desirable place to call home for those who wish to escape harsh northern winters and the deep south's hot summers. Perennially recognized by national publications as one of the country's best places to work and live, Raleigh is also home to five colleges and universities.

As North Carolina's capital and second-largest city, Raleigh's proximity to the Research Triangle Park is also a huge asset. This world-renowned and largest U.S. research park created in the 1950s is home to more than 170 companies and federal agencies and has become a mecca for the information and biotechnical industries.

The City of Oaks also boasts it own professional ice hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes, who won the Stanley Cup in 2006. College sports, such as baseball, football and basketball, also abound. If cultural opportunities are your thing, Raleigh is also home to the North Carolina Museum of Art, the North Carolina Symphony, the Carolina Ballet and many other arts groups. And being situated between the mountains and the coast is a pretty nice perk as well.

So as you can see, Raleigh has a lot to offer singles, young professionals, couples, families and retirees. Whether you choose to live inside the Beltline or in Midtown, in North Raleigh or beyond the new outer loop, you're sure to find a lifestyle that makes Raleigh a place you'll be thrilled to call home.
