Living in Amherst, New Hampshire

Amherst, New Hampshire is a quiet town of about 12,000 located in Southern NH, just minutes to the Massachusetts Border. Many residents in Amherst commute to Massachusetts; Amherst is conveniently located less than an hour from Boston (with good traffic). Amherst lies to the West of Nashua, NH, South of Manchester and Bedford and East of Milford. There is easy access to Route 3 which is the main North-South corridor.

Amherst is primarily a bedroom community, with most of its retail and businesses located off of Route 101A. Recent growth in the retail sector has been brisk with a super Walmart, Lowes, Circuit City, Staples, Super Stop and Shop and many more opening their doors in Amherst. We have access to two large malls, Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua and The Manchester Mall as well as a wealth of specialty shops in the area.

Once you turn off the busy Route 101A corridor, you quickly arrive in a country atmosphere of handsome and well kept homes. Town ordinances call for larger home lots so it is common for Amherst, NH homes for sale to have larger lots of 2 to 5 acres. The Amherst Village is unique in that the entire village is on the Historic Register. Many annual activities take place in the Village including an Easter Egg hunt, the famous 4th of July parade that attracts many politicians (very common to have Presidential and Senate candidates in attendance), Halloween trick or treating where the Village is an exciting place to go and of course the annual Christmas celebration including live Nativity at the Amherst Congregational Church.

Amherst is a wonderful place to live and raise a family; the schools are highly sought after with the award winning Amherst Middle School and well known Souhegan High School.
