Welcome to Durham, NH

Durham housing offers many options for residents, from condos to luxury waterfront properties. While the downturn in the housing market has affected Durham, it is more of an expected correction to home values. It is a good time to buy in Durham. For the quality of life in Durham you will pay higher taxes than in some nearby areas, but you may find home prices lower to compensate, and few towns on the Seacoast offer as much as you will find here.

The landscape truly shaped the character and quality of life here. Early in Durham’s history the town developed into a successful, agricultural community. It is no wonder that New Hampshire’s agricultural college relocated to Durham in 1866. Today that college is the University of New Hampshire, a research university with a respected school of agriculture.

Durham is home to nearly 14,000 residents. The university provides Durham residents with access to excellent athletic facilities, cultural venues like the Whittemore Center and the impressive UNH Library. The public Oyster River School District, is ranked one of the best in New Hampshire. Durham is located on the Oyster River & Great Bay. Both provide ocean access, and spectacular natural surroundings. Many educational opportunities focus on these natural resources.

Durham is just minutes to I-95 and the coast, 1 hour from Boston & 50 minutes from Manchester. There is Amtrak train service to North Station in Boston, on the Downeaster. Local transportation is provided by the Wildcat Transit busses.

Add to all of these amenities, the ease of finding quality healthcare at area hospitals, the proximity to good restaurants and shopping, the ability to be in the mountains or at the ocean in a matter of minutes, and you easily conclude that Durham, New Hampshire offers an exceptional quality of life.
