The White Mountains of New HampshireThe White Mountains of New Hampshire have long been recognized for natural splendor, cultural richness, historical charm and inspiring recreation- and some of the most beautiful scenery in the eastern US. The White Mountains are considered to be one of the most well-liked year-round destinations in the East.
Twenty 4,000 foot peaks are found here along with the highest mountain in the Northeast, Mt. Washington, but it's the 800,000 acre White Mountain National Forest that truly shapes the area. The forest is part of or abuts every town in the region, ensuring much of the region's land will remain a working forest and natural recreational area.
The preference of recreation is never-ending, from hiking to picturesque drives and fishing. In the winter there is plenty of skiing, snowshoeing and festivals. While the White Mountains of New Hampshire may be recognized for its outdoor recreation, the art lover will find much to choose from. Summer stock theatre and unique cultural events throughout the region are just some of the events to choose from. History enthusiasts will find historical museums in nearly every town, as well as museums the entire family will find captivating, including Franconia's Frost Place, once owned by poet Robert Frost. | More Local Area InformationLittleton, NH the friendliest town in the United States. 14 years ago there was a phone booth and one stop light on the corner of Cottage and Unio...
