Welcome to Millburn, New Jersey

Long prized for its beauty, proximity to New York City, and high-performing public school system, the two communities of Short Hills and Millburn, which comprise Millburn Township, are rich both in historic charm and natural beauty. The communities were developed by inventor and horticulturist Stewart Hartshorn, who made it a priority to preserve the natural landscape by creating winding roads through the wooded areas rather than cutting the trees. As a result, much of the local real estate in Short Hills and Millburn is surrounded by idyllic landscaping and mature trees. Along with the beautiful homes, the township’s excellent school system boasts a long tradition of top-tier state and national rankings, with a high proportion of graduates gaining access to the most competitive colleges.

Millburn is home to one of the country’s leading regional theaters, The Paper Mill Playhouse. Also, the well-known Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary welcomes nature lovers to just about 16 acres of enchanting grounds and gardens. The bustling downtowns of Millburn and Short Hills offer fine boutiques, gourmet restaurants and cinema; while the more ambitious shopper can be found just minutes away at the Mall of Short Hills, a premier retail destination. Midtown Direct rail service, easy access to major highways and close proximity to the Newark Liberty International Airport make these lovely communities a commuter’s delight.
