Lindenhurst is the fourth largest incorporated village in New York State and is located Suffolk County's spectacular South Shore in the Town of Babylon. The original residents were the Native American Massapequans and Secatogues, then English settled in the 1600’s but in 1867 when the railroad was first brought to the area, it became a haven for German immigrants. It was actually originally named City of Breslau in 1870 after the hometown of Charles S. Schleier, the German immigrant who made his fortune in Brooklyn and developed the area now known as Lindenhurst.

Lindenhurst's main industries from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s included tailoring, Swiss embroidery, papier mache, and production of cigars, safety pins, metal fasteners, tar paper, artificial flowers, and so on. Today, the town is known for its construction of electrical goods, aircraft parts, textiles, and metal products. In 1923, Lindenhurst officially became an incorporated village.

While many residents are reflective of Lindenhurst’s German roots, today the families who live here are from diverse origins. It has even been home to some celebrities, most notably Pat Benatar.

Among the things that makes Lindenhurst so attractive is the proximity to the beautiful South Shore and its beaches, boating and spectacular views. It also has a terrific sense of community and an excellent school district where kids can get a great education and enjoy themselves while doing it with sports programs and extra-curricular activities.
