The Hamptons refers to a string of Villages and Hamlets on the East End of Long Island about 120 miles or so from Manhattan. Historically, some 300 years ago, the Hamptons were actually more aligned with New England in terms of politics and culture, but over time they became inextricably linked to the people and fortunes of New York City. While always an escape for New Yorkers, in the past few decades their reputation as a second home resort get-away for Manhattanites has grown dramatically. In actuality, the Hamptons have become a magnet for top performers in all fields---finance, business, design, art, fashion, and media---to the point where the comings and goings of well know individuals are tracked in national and international media. However, there is another side of the Hamptons as well. One populated with year round, hard working local citizens who service the second home folks as well as the emergency services, schools, and other businesses. The allure of the Hamptons is not just based on “A-List” watching. The Hamptons offers some of the most exquisite natural beauty and outdoor based activities that can be found anywhere. From world class deep sea fishing in Montauk to equestrian activities in Bridgehampton and Sagaponack to top rated golf courses, to just plain old body surfing and sunning along miles and miles of Ocean beaches. There is also board surfing and windsailing in Montauk and Amagansett as well as recreational boating on Long Island Sound with major harbors in Sag Harbor and East Hampton. Lastly, there is a myriad of cultural activites ranging from theater to music to art galleries. The Hamptons---Montauk, Amagansett, East Hampton, Wainscott, Sag Harbor, Sagaponack, Bridgehampton, Watermill and Southampton---comprise an amazing area of our country and it is no wonder that there is so much interest from people all over the world in visiting and making them a second home for their friends and family.
