Newberry - The Watermelon Capital of North Florida

Newberry earned its place on the map for being the watermelon capital of North Florida, where residents celebrate their agricultural bounty at the annual Watermelon Festival each summer. The town also draws equestrians to Canterbury Florida’s Equestrian Showplace for events throughout the year. The manufacture of piping joins farming and agriculture as the main industries in this town of 1,700 citizens. Newberry’s growth is gaining momentum as Gainesville’s expansion moves westward.
