About Niceville, Florida
Located in the Florida panhandle along the north shore of the Choctawhatchee Bay, Niceville is a paradise for all ages and interests. Niceville has the best of both worlds. Quiet and quaint or activities to satisfy any vacationer. You can sail the Bay, golf at many of the outstanding courses; but minutes from Destin attractions, dining, world class fishing, and the unique sugar white sandy beaches of the Gulf, without the crowds. If you visit for a week or stay for a lifetime you won't be disappointed. It's easy to see why Niceville is an attractive community for people and families of all ages.
Niceville community is closely linked with the military with Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field, and Duke Field right next door. The Eglin Gulf Test Range is the largest in the world and provides approximately 130,000 square miles of over water airspace, 724 square miles of over land ranges. Eglin employs more than 8,500 military and approximately 4,500 civilians, with an additional 2,200 jobs due to move to Eglin and Duke in 2011 under the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC).
The Okaloosa County and Niceville have outstanding schools and historically are some of the highest rated schools in Florida. In 2008 Okaloosa County had the highest percentage of "A" schools in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Education. Thirty Okaloosa schools received A's, three received B's and one received a C. All of Niceville's schools were "A" rated schools.
