Welcome to Norwood, OH

Norwood, founded in 1888 and informally referred to as "Northwood" because it was then a northern suburb, is an independent ‘enclave city’ on 3.1 square miles totally surrounded by Cincinnati. Its proximity to all the area’s major roads and railways made it a notable manufacturing center and crossroads for commerce. It also enjoyed a reputation for stability and strong community values.

Norwood was dealt a major economic blow in 1987, when then major employer General Motors closed their plant here, turning a 50-acre site into a decaying eyesore as well as severely affecting the employment and tax base. This economic crisis became the city fathers’ opportunity to choose their future, and they did. An ambitious master plan for recovery focused on redeveloping three abandoned industrial sites into sleek high-density office complexes, an upscale retail shopping center and a successful business/technology incubator. The "new" Norwood has moved into the 21st century as a revitalized city with a transformed diversified economic base, yet it has retained its strong sense of community pride. Its exceptional shopping, business and dining venues draw daily from all over Greater Cincinnati and beyond. Well-known area employers include United Dairy Farmers, U.S. Playing Card and Convergys. ITT Technical Institute’s only Cincinnati campus is located here. Governed by a Mayor and City Council, Norwood has strong municipal services and its own public schools. Residents keep abreast of community news through their own local paper. In keeping with its history in heavy manufacturing, many of the houses on Norwood’s tree-lined streets are generally solid older structures with low-maintenance yards originally built for families of plant workers. Many are upgraded with amenities and improvements for today’s lifestyle. Norwood’s strategic location makes it convenient to the entire Tri-State region, as well as a great place to call home
