Settled in 1794 by surveyor John Dunlap (who named the place after his birthplace, Coleraine in Ireland), Colerain Township is Ohio’s largest unincorporated township. This expansive area offers a range of newer, affordable homes—traditional and contemporary— as well as condominiums, multi-levels and apartments. Colerain Avenue, the major artery through the township, has a daily traffic count of more than 55,000 cars and 95,000 people within three miles of the corridor. It offers nearly every major restaurant chain and a wide range of shopping, anchored by the 140- store Northgate Mall (had a $40-million makeover). Opened in part in summer 2007 is Stone Creek Towne Center, one fourth mile north of Northgate Mall, a $50-million complex of stores, offices and restaurants. Colerain’s Northwest School district: has two excellent high schools— Colerain and Northwest. Shaping up here is a regional school to consolidate four Catholic schools. Hospitals—Mercy Franciscan and Mercy Fairfield—are minutes away. Major employers include P&G Miami Valley Lab, Rumpke and Northgate Mall. The township includes the four communities of Groesbeck, Monfort Heights, White Oaks and Mt. Airy.
