The city of Milford, Ohio was once a mill town and a ford, established in 1798 and incorporated in 1836. The name Milford is a result of a combination of the two words—mill and ford. Today, Milford is a desirable place to live with all types of housing—post-World War II homes, new construction, comfortable subdivisions and restored century-old houses. Located here is the historic Promont House, built in 1865 and home to former Ohio Governor John Pattison. Schools are highly rated, earning “Excellent” for the past five out of six years from the Ohio Department of Education. Community events include an annual Frontier Days festival to celebrate the city’s history. Shopping on Main Street is fun, with its assortment of antique shops, new stores (Kirk & Company Jewelers, Le Beastro dog bakery & boutique) and restaurants such as 20 Brix, a wine store, bar & restaurant; Latitudes Café, an American-style tapas restaurant. The city’s newest business district—River’s Edge off Milford Parkway—features a Target, Showcase Cinemas and chain restaurants. It is close to the Cincinnati Nature Center and to the stores, restaurants, office complexes and businesses that line the eastern I-275 beltway.
