Piqua is a town that honors their past. Located on the Great Miami River, Piqua has been the site of developing civilizations. The Shawnee and Miami Native American Tribes thrived in Piqua followed by settlers in the late 1700s which brought the Erie Canal through the city. Piqua was founded on a strong economy that survived two World Wars and the Great Depression.
Piqua is a magnet for educational facilities, including Edison Community College and a Joint Vocational School. Piqua’s most recent advancements forward include the restoration of the downtown area. The former Piqua Hotel renovated and recreated into a new Public Library with a “taste of the past.” As well as an inter city bike path that loops around the city of Piqua and also connects to the Buckeye Trail a bike path that spans across a large part of south western Ohio.
