Living in Rochester, OH

Because Lorain County boasts such a wide variety of attractions and recreation, life in Rochester is never dull. From shopping Avon’s historic French Creek District to touring some of Ohio’s Underground Railroad heritage sites, there are always fun and exciting things to do in Lorain County. The region offers plenty of culture and entertainment at various performance arts venues, such as The Palace in Lorain, the Ohio Dance Theater in Oberlin, and Avon Lake’s Awesome Possum Children’s Theatre Company. Likewise, there are many art galleries in Lorain County, including Oberlin College’s Allen Memorial Art Museum and Elyria’s Stocker Arts Center.

In addition to theater and the arts, Lorain County offers great family attractions and an abundance of outdoor recreation. For rowdy summer afternoons, nearby Oberlin is home to the Splash Zone water park, and the popular Cedar Point Amusement Park is just an hour’s drive north to Sandusky. Findley State Park, located only 5 miles east of Rochester, features over 900 acres of woodland and a 93 acre lake for camping, hiking, boating, fishing, swimming, and more. Also, Rochester residents have easy access to Lake Erie’s beautiful shoreline, which offers something for every outdoor interest, even scuba diving some of the lake’s 1000 shipwrecks!
