Attractions in Overland Park, KansasOverland Park offers its residents a wide variety of attractions that include theatre and the arts, shopping, outdoor recreation and family entertainment. The city is home to Johnson County Community College, which maintains the Carlsen Center for the Performing Arts and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Also, the New Theatre Restaurant is a popular evening pastime, featuring quality cuisine and a wide range of performances. Shopaholics will feel right at home in Overland Park with the city’s many shopping centers, including Hawthorne Plaza, Oak Park Mall, and the unique shops and boutiques found in the downtown historical district. Downtown Overland Park was once part of the famous Santa Fe Trail and features 300 locally owned and operated eateries, antique shops, art galleries, and more in a quaint small-town setting. The district is also home to the Overland Park Farmers Market, the Clock Tower Series Concerts, and many other festivals and special events throughout the year.
Aside from shopping and dining, Overland Park is a great city for outdoor attractions and recreation. For family fun, the Deanna Rose Farmstead offers a petting zoo, gardens, an authentic one-room schoolhouse, historic exhibits, a fishing pond, pony rides, hay rides and more. Overland Park is also home to the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, as well as 78 parks, open space areas, and four small lakes for public enjoyment. There are three golf courses within the community—the Deer Creek Golf Club, the Overland Park Golf Club, and St. Andrews Golf Course—plus many more in the Kansas City area.
