Welcome to Ardmore, Pennsylvania

Ardmore, Pennsylvania is an unincorporated community located in Lower Merion Township of Montgomery County and is considered a western suburb of Philadelphia. This neighborhood of about 13,000 resides on the west end of the Main Line of the famous Pennsylvania Railroad making it a prime location for commuters as well as tourism. Ardmore's historic downtown area offers a charming atmosphere that includes antique shops and boutiques and a variety of local restaurants. Suburban Square, one of the nation's oldest shopping centers is located in Ardmore as well, offering over 65 local and national retailers and restaurants to the area residents. In 2005 Ardmore acquired the Ardmore Farmers Market located in Suburban Square. Supplied with over 20 vendors offering the very best in everything from seafood, sweets, flowers, cheese and coffee to fresh made salads, soups and deli items, this popular bazaar was constructed in honor of the 75th anniversary of Suburban Square.

Ardmore, which is Gaelic for high grounds, originated in 1811 by Dr. James Anderson under the name of Athensville. The area was renamed once in 1853 due to numerous other areas being named Athensville, and then again in 1873 to its present name, chosen for the number of Irish immigrants that called the area home. Ardmore was then named the seat of Lower Merion Township in 1900. This region of Lower Merion Township is one of historic pride and architectural significance. Many residents have maintained family-owned businesses since Ardmore's beginning while others trace theirs back for decades.

Being so close to Philadelphia and surrounded by prestigious universities, along with the great amenities of this thriving community, are only a few of the reasons anyone would love to call Ardmore, Pennsylvania home.
