Welcome to North Pocono, PA

North Poconos is area comprising many unique townships with small town centers and villages and surrounding rural lands. The municipalities are Moscow, Covington, Madison, Spring Brook, Roaring Brook, Jefferson, Clifton, Thornhurst and Lehigh, which includes the village of Gouldsboro. Our area boasts the highly rated North Pocono School District serving these Townships. The newly constructed, state of the art high school will open its doors in fall of 2009. Nestled on 50 acres in Covington Township the new campus offers classrooms with smart boards, laboratories, computers, athletic fields, gymnasium and an auditorium that can seat 12,000.

North Pocono has a rich history of agriculture, tanneries, lumbering and railroads yet still offers that small town feeling without sacrificing modern conveniences.

Covington is centrally located and serves as the commercial hub of the North Pocono region, offering a large shopping plaza featuring department and grocery shopping, pharmacies, cafes and restaurants, medical services and several ancillary services. Surrounding locales are dotted with charming cafés, farm stands and mom and pop businesses.

Perhaps one of our most unique and valuable resources in the 50+ acre Moffat Estate, which was will to Covington Township and dedicated for the benefit of the community. Former Estate owner Robert Moffat SR and JR were linked to Scranton coal industry. The original stone mansion currently houses the township offices and is the host to community events throughout the year. The grounds of the Moffat Estate are also home to the Environmental Institute, affiliate with Lackawanna College. The EI offers adult education on a variety of environmental interests. They also offer summer camp programs for school age children, such as backyard habitats, utilizing this wonderful resource. The property also offers a pavilion, fields, a lake and hiking trails for the public use.

The borough of Moscow is where the NPS complex is located, the former HS has been turned into a middle school, the middle school will now serve as an intermediate school and the elementary center will now accommodate grades K-3. Moscow has several lovely housing developments, the NP library, a new borough building, central park, rotary park and golden park plus a beautifully restore train station. Steamtown railroad from Scranton frequently runs an excursion service to the Moscow station.

Surrounding Townships are just as quaint and picturesque. Each must be explored and enjoyed in its own right. Gouldsboro State Park offers hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails, a swimming lake and spectacular scenery every season. It is truly a gem! Thornhurst boasts Lackawanna County State Forest with miles of snowmobile, cross-country skiing, hiking trails and orienteering trails.

Amidst its open spaces and rural landscape, NP is easily accessible to Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey. We are also within 13 miles of several prestigious colleges and universities, including the University of Scranton and Marywood University.

Within abundance of natural beauty, recreational activities, excellent schools and universities and its proximity to major city centers, North Pocono is a wonderful area to live, work and play. But its best feature is its residents. They make you feel special and welcome; making it the area you will be proud to call home.
