Welcome to Clarks Summit in Northeastern Pennsylvania! Also known as the Abingtons, you will find that our community is a picturesque place to live and that your 20,000 plus neighbors will be friendly and eager to welcome you. We’re located five miles north of Scranton and made up of the following municipalities…Clarks Summit, Clarks Green, Glenburn, Ransom, S. Abington, N. Abington , Newton and Chinchilla. It is a setting of rolling wooded hills, winding roads and old stone walls, lakes and streams.
This area also boasts an excellent school district. The Abington Heights School District was rated in the top 100 schools in the nation by Money magazine. Our nearby school systems include colleges and universities such as Marywood University, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Scranton, and are considered to be among the best in the country.
Recreational activities in the Abington area are Lackawanna County State Park and the S. Abington Park and Recreation Center which offers a playground, soccer fields, basketball courts, rollerblading and bike area, creek with a nature trail and picnic area. In the winter, the park transforms into a wonderland of sledding hills, ice skating rink and covered outdoor pavilion with a fireplace.
A calendar of events includes the annual Ice Festival which draws thousands of visitors each February, Sidewalk Sales Days & Park Day, Seasonal Mixers, Fall Fun/Scarecrow Making Party, and Home for the Holidays Open House.
In addition to the beauty and activities in the Clark Summit area, folks can enjoy the numerous nightclubs in nearby downtown Scranton and professional sports at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza, snowboarding and tubing at Elk Mountain and Sno Mountain Ski Resorts, along with our theaters, historical sites, concert halls and much more. There are 36 public golf courses within a 45 minute drive from the area.
Montage Mountain is also home to The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees Baseball Team at the Lackawanna County Stadium, the 16,000 seat Amphitheater adjacent to the ski slopes, features national recording artists such as Aerosmith, Dave Matthews Band and Oz-Fest and the recently built mega Cinemark Theater with 17 screens and prepared to host parties and special events. In addition, The Shoppes at Montage is a lifestyle center that opened in 2007 and brought in approximately 70 mid-high end retailers to the area.
We are within a 2 ½ hour drive to Philadelphia and New York City. Local groups often sponsor “do your own thing” bus trips into the cities for a day of fun.
