The Lehigh Valley Region consists of the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, as well as the counties of Lehigh and Northampton. It is situated 90 miles due west of New York City, 60 miles Northwest of Philadelphia and 30 miles south of the Poconos. With a population of over 600,000 people the “Valley” is a vibrant growing area. The area is serviced by Lehigh Valley International Airport with service to all major cities and two private aviation fields. Both interstates 78 and 80 pass through for easy highway access to all major east coast markets.
Education is big business in the Lehigh Valley. The area is home to Lehigh University and 8 colleges including Moravian, Lafayette, Muhlenberg, Cedar Crest, De Sales, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Lehigh Carbon Community and Northampton Community, each providing their own unique contribution to the arts and scholarship, and providing vital training to maintain a diverse workforce.
Two major teaching hospitals, St. Luke’s and Lehigh Valley Medical Center, each with a Level One trauma ER serve our area, as well as four smaller community hospitals. Several Fortune 500 corporations have a local presence here including Binney & Smith, Air Products & Chemicals, PPL, Martin Guitar, BMW, Fireman’s Fund, D & B, ESSROC Cement, B. Braun and LSI.
The Lehigh Valley has much to offer in the area of culture and arts. Allentown is home to the Allentown Art Museum, Baum Art School and the Symphony Orchestra. History comes to life in Bethlehem under the leadership of the Historic Bethlehem Partnership which leads Historic Bethlehem Inc., The Kemmerer Museum, Moravian Museum and Burnside Plantation and maintains two buildings on the National Historic Register. In Easton, one can take mule barge rides along the historic Lehigh Canal or spend the day antiquing or creating at the Crayola Factory.
No need to travel far for upscale shopping. The Promenade Shops, a Lifestyle Center in Saucon Valley featuring L.L. Bean among many boutique stores, and the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township with Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Barnes & Noble, Macy’s and more, offer opportunities for the most discerning shopper. Or for a change of pace, shoppers can stroll on Bethlehem’s charming tree-lined Main St., home to many unique stores.
Family entertainment ranges from the four roller coasters at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom to the Allentown State Fair, Celticfest, De Sales annual Shakespeare Festival and Bethlehem’s 9-day Musikfest with over 500 free performances. Sports fans can take in an Iron Pigs baseball game, the Philadelphia Phillies AAA team at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown or catch the bike racing action at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. One can also sail on Lake Nockamixon, water ski on Beltzville Lake, ride in swan paddle boats on Muhlenberg Lake or just relax in one of the many local parks. And, the luxurious Sands Casino offers guests the opportunity to try their luck!
