Scranton, PA- The Electric City

Scranton is the largest city in Northeast Pennsylvania. In 1866 the first electric trolley car was introduced and Scranton was nicknamed “The Electric City”. Now it is better known as the fictional city in the TV show “The Office” and the home of the triple A Yankees.

The Scranton Cultural Center brings the philharmonic, Broadway shows, opera, ballet, children’s travel shows and concert venues to Northeastern Pennsylvania. Visit Downtown and take a ride on an original steam train or travel into the depths of a coal mine. One of the places you must visit is Nay Aug Park, which has walking trails, picnic areas, kid friendly rides, 2 playgrounds, 2 swimming pools and The Everhart Museum of Natural History, along with a rock strewn gorge and waterfalls. Montage Mountain boasts a skiing resort, golf club, a water park, the Triple A Yankees baseball stadium, a Cineplex, an Amphitheatre (host to world renowned musicians, pop and rock groups) and the retail shops at Montage.

With just a short drive you can take in a W-B/Scranton Penguins ice hockey game (farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins), enjoy a AAA Yankees baseball game, attend a NASCAR event, see live harness racing or try your luck at the Mount Airy Casino. There are over 50 Golf courses, most with very scenic views, ski resorts, water parks, biking and hiking trails, canoeing and white water rafting. You can also fish, camp and boat at one of our many area lakes or state parks.

The Cultural opportunities are enhanced by a number of local colleges and universities Scranton University in the downtown and Maywood College nearby. In addition to the 6 fine colleges and universities, Scranton is proud to welcome the newest Pennsylvania Medical College; there are three junior colleges, three college preparatory schools, twelve school districts all with well respected high schools and a variety of private and parochial schools.

Even though the original roots of Scranton were as a Railroad and Coal Capital, the economic focus has changed and is now composed of industrial, manufacturing, service, wholesale, technology, internet, retail and medical industries. Two Casinos complexes are new to our areas. Our location puts us in close proximity to interstate 81, 80 and the PA turnpike, which makes our area attractive to businesses which are looking to relocate to an affordable, business friendly environment with a quality work force. New York City and Philadelphia day trips are just a two hour commute, and Washington D.C. can be reached in just under 3 hours.
