Park City, UT Attractions
In winter or summer, rain or shine, there is never a dull moment in Park City, UT. As one of the premier resort towns in the U.S.—home to the Park City Mountain Resort, the Deer Valley Resort, and The Canyons Resort—Park City boasts a year-round calendar of activities and events for the whole family, as well as a long list of some of the most appealing Utah attractions. Of course, one of the top attractions in Park City is the Wasatch Mountains and all the outdoor recreation they offer, from Park City skiing and snowboarding to mountain biking, hiking, and even scenic hot air balloon rides. Thrill-seekers of all ages can enjoy the resorts’ Alpine Slide, Alpine Coaster, and the ZipRider, as well as the Utah Olympic Park, where residents and visitors can watch and participate in several Olympic-style sports, such as the bobsled, luge, and ski jumping. During the warmer months, a favorite local outdoor activity is Park City golf, and the town is famous for its selection of highly acclaimed private courses, such as the Promontory Club, Glenwild Golf Club & Spa, and Tuhaye Golf Club, all of which have been expertly designed by golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, and Mark O’Meara. Park City is also accessible to 144 holes of golf at 4 public courses—and Park City residents and visitors have easy access to all nearby Salt Lake City golf courses.
Aside from outdoor recreation in the Wasatch Mountains, there are plenty of things to do in downtown Park City. Park City’s historic Main Street is a focal point of the town, featuring sixty-four buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From the Park City Historical Museum & Territorial Jail to the old mining structures that dot the hillsides, Park City’s history is never far from sight, and local legends and ghost stories add to the charm and character of many Park City B&Bs and other establishments. Whether you’re out for a casual afternoon, or decked out for an evening on the town, downtown Park City’s impressive selection of dining and shopping will not disappoint. In fact, it is said that Park City has more restaurants per capita than any other resort town, and cuisines can range from elegant international dishes to casual All-American. Park City shopping includes a unique array of sporting gear shops, antique stores, bookstores, clothing boutiques, and over 13 local spas for relaxation.
Among the most popular Park City attractions are the exciting events and festivals that the town hosts year-round. Every year in January, Park City is featured under an international spotlight as the home of the Sundance Film Festival, started by Robert Redford and the Sundance Institute in 1981. Park City’s Sundance Film Festival attracts thousands of independent film fans from all over the world, who crowd the town’s theater venues to see the latest breakthroughs in filmmaking. In addition to Sundance, Park City also hosts a major cultural event in August—called Artstravaganza—during which Park City residents and visitors can attend an incredible schedule of arts, entertainment, and performances, such as the Kimball Arts Festival, the Deer Valley Music Festival, the Park City International Music Festival, and the Fidelity Investments Jazz Festival.
