Living in Penn Laird, VA

About three miles east of Harrisonburg lies the little village of Penn Laird. While small, it offers nearby residents the convenience of country living while still being close to town. Close by you can find the Valley Mall, Rockingham Square and many other shopping opportunities, James Madison University, Rockingham Memorial Hospital and supporting medical facilities and doctors' offices. It's close to a multitude of grocery stores, the newest being Martin's and the many restaurants available to enjoy.

While small, Penn Laird does offer nearby residents the convenience of a "mom and pop" grocery store, which stocks a little of everything including country hams which they ship anywhere you wish and a make-it-to-order sandwich counter. There are also fresh produce stands, one beside the post office (check for their hours of operation) and one across the highway from Gayle's Market.

Penn Laird also boasts several housing developments, in which you can find many price ranges represented. Battlefield Estates features some larger lovely, upscale residences as does adjoining Great Oaks and Bridlewood Subdivision which are quite elite. Madison Village is a newer subdivision and has both new construction and lots ready for their builder to put your house of choice. Mountain Meadow Estates is also newer, while Donnagail is very established. And, of course, these are just several subdivisions now available from which you may choose.

Old Dominion Realty's Crossroads Plaza office is located in an attractive strip mall at the stop light on Route 33 at Penn Laird and is staffed with both Realtors and appraisers, ready to assist the public with their real estate needs. The mall also includes Sarah's Ice Cream Shoppe, which serves breakfast from 6 a.m. plus sandwiches and delightful ice cream treats throughout the day. Wine Styles, as the name indicates, is a shop in which you can choose, or ask for help choosing, the perfect wine for your celebration. Kinetic Kids, a facility for child development, will soon open and is expected to be filled to capacity with kids of all ages. Crown Chiropractic and Wellness Center also has space at Crossroads Plaza. Farmers and Merchants Bank occupies space on the opposite corner, providing full banking services.

Small, friendly and very diversified, that's Penn Laird!
