East Greenwich, a town rich in American history dating as far back as the 1660’s, still takes pride in the heritage that made this town what it is today.

East Greenwich, incorporated in 1677, estimates the population at 13,000 within its 16 square miles. East Greenwich, located centrally in Rhode Island on the western shore of Narragansett Bay, is 14 miles south of downtown Providence, 64 miles south of Boston and only 164 miles north of New York City. T. F. Green Airport is only minutes away with Amtrak stations nearby.

East Greenwich has a remarkable reputation for its education system. The school system consists of six schools: four elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Co-curricular activities are available for students including intramural and interscholastic athletics, performing arts, student publications and student government for the social development of students. Drama, modern language, robotics, science Olympiad and Mock Trail also enrich the core curriculum. There is a parochial school in East Greenwich and several private schools nearby.

Since the days of Roger Williams and his quest for religious freedom, East Greenwich has supported a wide range of faiths: Baptist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Unitarian, Jewish and Evangelical Covenant.

There are nine recreation areas in town which include playing fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, five nature parks, open space and waterfront access as well as a senior center. The privately owned Greenwich Club is a family pool club which includes a main pool, kiddies’ pool and bathhouse. The East Greenwich Yacht Club is a center for sailing and boating enthusiasts with slips, moorings, launch service and a well respected youth sailing school conveniently located on Greenwich Bay. Among the many activities: once a month during the months of May through September there is “The Main Street Stroll” featuring wonderful shops displaying their wares, food tasting, live music and artists. “Music on the Hill” concerts begin the musical season ending with the “Summers End” concert.

The town offers a wide range of activities for its younger residents: Scouting, Little League, Soccer, Lacrosse and Rainbow Girls to name a few.

Goddard Memorial Park abuts East Greenwich minutes away. It has a beach, picnic facilities with fireplaces, playing fields, Equestrian area with miles of riding trails, fishing and boating, plus a nine hole golf course. The park is open year round. Quidnessett Country Club and Potowomut Country Club are private golf clubs within minutes of East Greenwich, offering an 18 hole golf course, club house, pro shop and dining.

A strong sense of community is highly visible here in East Greenwich from numerous historical organizations such as the Kentish Guards Rhode Island Militia and Sons of the American Revolution to AARP, American Association of University Women, The American Legion, numerous garden clubs, East Greenwich/Cowesett New Neighbors, Rotary and Lions Club to name a few.

There are several senior communities and assisted living facilities here in town and near town to choose from with different special care units and multiple support options for residents of advanced age. Kent County Memorial Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, Woman and Infants Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, South County Hospital are all close by for exceptional medical care.
