Roswell Georgia Attractions

Whether you're a current resident of Roswell, planning to visit, or hope to one day call the city home, there are many attractions to visit. One aspect of the city that can't be ignored is its past, greatly affected by the Civil War. Today, many mills and antebellum mansions are still standing, are open to the public, and offer a glimpse into life in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Two of these many Civil War-era attractions include Bulloch Hall and Roswell Mill. Bulloch Hall was a Greek revival mansion built by the hands of slaves in 1839. Completed in 1840, the home was first occupied by Major Bulloch and his family, including his daughter Mittie. Mittie was later married in the dining room of Bulloch Hall to Theodore Roosevelt, and the couple soon after gave birth to future president of the United States Teddy Roosevelt.

Roswell Mill was founded by Roswell King's son, Barrington King. A major objective of General Sherman during the Atlanta Campaign, the mill was destroyed in 1863 since it was beneficial to the Confederacy. After the war, the mill was rebuilt and remained in operation up until the 1970s. Today, what remains of the Roswell Mill is part of a scenic hiking trail, and it's situated close to a series of upscale shops and boutiques in downtown Roswell.

For down home Southern cooking, you may want to venture outside of historic downtown Roswell for true barbecue cuisine. While it may not look like much from the outside (the restaurant doesn't even have a sign), the rustic Swallow at the Hollow is a Roswell treasure for eats and entertainment. For a nominal charge, you can sit down to a hearty meal and the music of a local musician as well--something that both visitors and residents of the town can enjoy.
