Welcome to Rutherford, NJ

Rutherford is a beautiful, small suburb rich in history as well as a spirit of community. Known as the “Borough of Trees”, Rutherford’s canopied tree-lined streets compliment the neighborhoods as well as many a stately home.

This quiet hamlet was settled in 1664 and encompasses 2.8 square miles with a population of 18,000+. Located eight miles west of New York City, Rutherford commuters can choose between a direct train access to midtown Manhattan or several routes provided by the New Jersey Transit Bus Line. For travelers, Newark International Airport is a mere twelve miles south on the New Jersey Turnpike. Both JFK and LaGuardia International Airports can be reached via Manhattan within approximately 45 minutes. The Garden State Parkway lies five miles to the west, affording everyone a quick getaway to all shore points south.

The Rutherford Public School system, a highly accredited “Blue Ribbon” district, offers classes from Kindergarten through High School with many of its graduates going onto some of the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities. Saint Mary’s is a private parochial school with an elementary school as well as a high school. In 1997, Felician College opened a ten acre campus on the former site of Fairleigh Dickinson University which is located in the center of the borough.

The downtown area is known for its fine dining establishments, including two three-star restaurants as well as a variety of specialty shops and services. With a spectacular skyline view of New York City, this unique town borders on the famous Meadowlands – home of the New York Giants, the New York Jets as well as the Nets basketball team. The newest sporting venue, several world class golf courses, just hosted the PGA Barclays Championship this past summer.

CNN Money Magazine recently ranked Rutherford, “as the 22nd best place in the country for the young, rich, and single to live.” No matter what your age, the opportunity to reside and play in a small town environment within minute of the “Big Apple” makes the community of Rutherford a unique place to live and prosper with your family.
