The historic city of Charleston, situated on a peninsula is bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. Charleston is home to an abundance of world renowned cultural and sporting events. The Spoleto Festival USA, founded in 1977, derives its name from a similar event in Spoleto, Italy. Spoleto is a comprehensive arts festival celebrating dance, theater, opera, jazz and much more held annually in late May and early June. Every February the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, the largest wildlife art event in the country, highlights wildlife and nature paintings, prints, sculptures, carvings, photography, crafts and collectibles for show and sale. The Cooper River Bridge Run, a 10k run over the breathtaking Arthur Ravenel Bridge, draws runners from all over the world. Similarly, the Family Circle Tennis Tournament attracts the best professional women’s tennis players on the circuit. For golfers, Metro Charleston offers some of the finest and most recognized courses in the world, such as Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course, host to the Ryder Cup in 1991, and the upcoming PGA Championship in 2012. There is certainly no shortage of things to see and do in Charleston, including fine dining in some of the best restaurants found anywhere. The combination of quality of life, family values, reasonably priced housing, and a rich heritage make this community among the most desirable in America.
Single family homes and condominiums in the Metro Charleston area range from the $150s to well over a million dollars depending on location and proximity to the water. Homes in the Peninsular City, for example average in the mid $700s, but just a short distance across the river in Mt. Pleasant, the average price is approximately $450,000.
