Experience lower taxes and the pride of living in the Palmetto State, all while being minutes away from Charlotte and Gastonia, N.C. and Rock Hill, S.C. Clover, S.C. offers a small town atmosphere full of southern charm and an excellent education system, making it a very popular choice for relocation. Established in 1887 as a railroad stop and later a quiet textile town, Clover has now formed into a town not only offering the convenience proximity to urban areas, but also its own industrial growth.
Clover also offers many recreation opportunities. Beautiful Lake Wylie is a mere 9 miles from the Clover town limits and is within the Clover School District. Lake Wylie, which offers 325 miles of shoreline shared by both Carolinas, is popular for boating, waterskiing and camping. It is also known for its fishing as the BASS tour regularly holds major tournaments there. Recreation opportunities in town include leagues for youth baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and football. Clover's main recreation facility is a 22 acre complex that offers softball fields, horseshoe pits, picnic areas, a .5 mile walking track and a wooded natural area.
Since the town was founded by Scotch-Irish immigrants, Clover takes time each year to celebrate its heritage with the Feis Chlobhair Festival held during the second week of June. This celebration attracts visitors from great distances, including Clover's sister city of Lame, North Ireland. The annual event includes traditional Highland games and, of course, bagpipes and kilts.
Clover's greatest pride comes from its' award-winning school system and educational support facilities. Clover students regularly compete at the state level in academics, athletics and the arts. The school system is currently comprised of five elementary schools, two middle schools, one junior high and one high school. The Clover School District Auditorium, built in 1994, seats 1,500 and features nationally-known performers on a regular basis. It is also home to the three-time state champion Clover High School Choraliers under the direction of Mr. Jay Forrest, South Carolina's 2001 Educator of the Year.
