Lovely Saline, MI

Located in Washtenaw County, Saline, MI is just 9 miles south of the greater Ann Arbor area and has a population of 8,034 people (according to the 2000 census). Native Americans traveled to what is now Saline to hunt and gather salt from nearby salt springs. French explorers canoed up to the area and also harvested the salt. These explorers named the local river Saline, which means salty or saline in French. Saline also contains the longest mastodon trailway ever found. University of Michigan paleontologists have partially excavated the corridor where the prehistoric animals roamed over 10,000 years ago.

Saline features a lovely downtown area that offers upscale shopping and fantastic dining. The city is also popular for its annual Celtic Festival, which attracts people from all over the country. Saline offers a nationally renowned school district that is perhaps one of its biggest draws. Ranked the 43rd best place to live out of 1,300 rated cities in the United States in a 2005 CNN/Money Magazine poll and 59th in 2007's poll, Saline also made CNN/Money's list of best places to retire in 2005.

Homebuyers will find both new construction homes and turn-of-the-century residential homes within Saline. As of the fourth quarter 2009, the average residential sale price is $251,488 and the average sale condominium sale price is $204,621.
