Southfield, MI - The Center of It AllToday Southfield, Michigan boasts a population of around 80,000 residents, and prides itself on being the “Center of It All” with over 2.2 million square feet of office space that surpasses even that of Detroit’s central business district. Southfield has its own contemporary skyline complete with five skyscrapers, a Westin Hotel and a conference center. Every weekday nearly 175,000 people arrive in the Southfield Town Center to work; the area is home to offices of more than 80 Fortune 500 companies, and is headquarters to Denso, Federal-Mogul, Lear Corporation, and Electronic Data Systems. Aside from being a regional commercial center with an abundance of career opportunities, Southfield is also a welcoming and well-established residential community with a nationally recognized education system, access to ten institutions of higher education, and a long list of attractions and entertainment both in the city and the surrounding Detroit Metro area. Southfield is home to the nation’s busiest movie theater—the Star Southfield Entertainment Center—as well as many retail centers and over 200 restaurants to please every palate. Every Thursday during the months of June to October, Southfield’s Millennium Center hosts the Southfield Farmer’s Market, which allows residents to stock up on the region’s yummiest fruits and vegetables, gourmet meats and cheeses, seafood, wines, and flowers. When the weather is too good to stay indoors, Southfield residents have over 700 acres of parks and recreation areas to use, including 330 acres of dedicated nature preserves, perfect for enjoying Michigan’s full four seasons. The city offers baseball fields (including the Miracle League Field of Dreams for children with physical or mental disabilities), tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, as well as trails for walking and jogging. The Southfield Sports Arena also features an ice rink and an outdoor pool. For golf lovers, there are two golf courses located within Southfield—the Beech Woods Golf Course and the Evergreen Hills Golf Course, both of which offer classes for youth and adults.
