Like many places in the South, Franklin, Tennessee made its history in the Civil War. Many battles were fought here and many of the homes that are from before the War are still standing today. It's most treasured attraction is the “Great American Main Street” which is full of stores, houses, museums, galleries and other things representing the past. What this city cares most about is preserving their history and letting people know about its past. The entire downtown district is made specifically as a historic district and has gotten great fame because of it. There are several recreation arenas offering everything from swimming pools to parks. Franklin is only 15 minutes from Nashville, and housing in Franklin is affordable and varies from modern condos to large estates.
