Welcome to Hartsville, TN

The city of Hartsville is located just north of the Cumberland River in Trousdale County, Tennessee, approximately 50 miles northeast of Nashville. A richly historic community, Hartsville was settled by non-Natives as early as 1797; its first resident, James Hart, established his homestead on the west bank of Goose Creek (which now flows alongside the city’s downtown business district). Soon after, the Charles Donoho family settled on the east bank and established their own town and mill referred to as Donoho’s Mill, but Donoho’s property was purchased by James Hart in 1800. Donoho’s Mill remained a separate entity known as “Damascus” until 1840, when the town merged with Hartsville and the city incorporated. As the site of the Battle of Hartsville in 1862, the city is part of Tennessee’s extensive Civil War heritage.
