Bryan and College Station are directly adjacent cities that together make up the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area, the 16th largest metropolitan area in Texas with over 203,000 people. Each community has its own distinct history and culture.

College Station, the youngest of the twin cities, was incorporated in 1938 and is home to the main campus of the former Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College, now known as Texas A&M University. The city’s name was derived from the Houston and Texas Central Railway stop at the TAMC campus.

College Station's population grew slowly until shortly after World War II when its non-student population began to spiral upward along with student enrollment driven by the new Veterans Education Act. College Station originally had a trolley system for transport from the college campus to downtown Bryan.

College Station today is a vibrant, young community and is Home to Texas A & M University as well as the George Bush Presidential Library. Neighborhoods range from golf course living at Pebble Creek to historical homes in the College Station Historical District. College Station also offers a diverse range of housing and price ranges for families, retirees, and students alike.

Unique to College Station is the Northgate Area, a great dining and entertainment area where students and former students alike go to relax after classes or TAMU football games. In addition, the Post Oak Mall offers nationally known stores as well as many unique locally owned businesses.
