About Killeen, TX

Welcome to the Greater Killeen area, home of Fort Hood, the world’s largest military installation, Texas A&M University - Central Texas and Central Texas College. We are a friendly, bustling area with lots of opportunities for shopping, recreation and education.

Killeen was founded with the coming of the railroad in 1882 and today enjoys a population of approximately 112,000 excluding the surrounding communities of Harker Heights and Copperas Cove with populations of about 25,000 and 30,000.

We are located, in the Heart of Texas, approximately 60 miles north of Austin, 140 miles north of San Antonio and 150 miles south of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Greater Killeen area is served by the Killeen Fort Hood Regional Airport. Carriers include American Eagle, Continental Express and Delta with direct connections to Dallas, Houston and Atlanta.

In this area you will enjoy low cost living and find housing plentiful and affordable pricing for both sale and rent.

The Killeen Independent School District services Killeen, Harker Heights, Nolanville and Fort Hood, with approximately 29,930 enrolled. Copperas Cove (located to the West of Killeen and Fort Hood) also has its own school district. Private schools and preschools are also available in the area.

There are many places to shop in the area such as the Killeen Mall and the new Market Heights Shopping Center as well as other stand alone stores and shopping centers. The Greater Killeen area offers restaurants of various cultures and tastes both chain and independently owned as well as fast food.
