Seabrook was incorporated in 1961 but has a rich history. Originally a seaside summer retreat for Houston residents the area was serviced by a rail line that extended from Houston through Morgans Point and LaPorte ending in Seabrook. Families came to escape the summer heat and enjoy life on Galveston Bay. Some of these original homes still exist today. Fishing and the seafood industry also thrived. Seabrook began to grow with the opening of The Johnson Space Center (NASA) in the early 1960’s. NASA is only 4 miles from Seabrook. This is home of Mission Control for manned space flights.
Seabrook has held tight to its early roots as a small town with our extensive parks system. It has 15 city parks and over ten miles of hike and bike trails. There are several locations on the Great Coastal Birding Trail. The largest park is Pine Gully Park, a 52 acre park on Galveston Bay boasting a 1000 foot fishing pier and Karawankawa Indian camp site.
