Welcome to Tarrytown, NY

Tarrytown is located on the eastern shore of the Hudson River, approximately 26 miles north of Manhattan. Like Sleepy Hollow, one of its neighboring villages, Tarrytown is steeped in history. It is often the choice village of all the River towns to visit if you are looking for excitement and energy. Tarrytown is known for its restaurants, parks and antique shops, which brings with it a thriving business community as well. It is often the destination of tourists as there is an express stop for Tarrytown on the Metro North Hudson Train line. The village has its own police and fire departments but shares school systems with Sleepy Hollow. Being situated at the base of the Tappan Zee Bridge with easy access to the thruway, Tarrytown makes for an even more popular stop. In addition to all the extra-curricular activities, Tarrytown was often the home of the wealthy few throughout history. Their estates have become well known historic sites open to the public. Lyndhurst, the former home of Jay Gould, is probably the most notable as it is one of the few examples of gothic architecture in the area. It is also the site of many outdoor events during the summer. Sunnyside, the home of the famous writer Washington Irving, is also a place to call on when visiting Tarrytown. The current population is 11,090.
