Its population in 2007 was 1,438 residents. Keezletown boasts spectacular mountain views and rolling hills. Originally spelled "Keisell’s Town" - this city began as 100 acres of land owned by George Keisell and was established on December 7th, 1791. When Rockingham County was debating where to permanently locate the county seat, a rivalry between George Keisell and Thomas Harrison ensued, each wanting their town to become the county seat. As the story goes, Keisell and Harrison raced to Richmond. Harrison was the first to arrive, thus, the county seat became, Harrisonburg. Today Keisell’s Town is most commonly known as Keezletown.
