Orange County offers a number of festivals each year including weekly farmers markets on Main Street, the Gordonsville & Orange Street Festivals, Montpelier Hunt Races, Pick of the Piedmont Wine Festival and many more.
Recreational activities in Orange include fishing, camping and tubing on the county’s lakes and rivers. Skydive Orange is also a most popular destination for locals and visitors alike. They offer tandem skydiving as well as static lines and AFF freefall dives.
History buffs flock to the recently restored, Montpelier, home of 4th President, James Madison. The Wilderness Battlefield in northern Orange County is a popular daytrip destination. Generals Lee and Grant led an epic battle at the site on May 5 and 6, 1864 resulting in 26,000 casualties. The victory of the Union marked General Grant’s first step toward Appomattox. Another sought after Civil War landmark is the Exchange Hotel Civil War Museum in Gordonsville, which served as a hospital during the Battle of Wilderness.
