Richmond, Virginia

Rich history meets modern living in the City of Richmond and the Greater Richmond Area. From golf courses to art museums, from Civil War relics to nightclubs, Richmond's life exudes from the city and beyond. Home to several Fortune 500 companies, the area provides opportunities for economic growth while keeping the mid-size city feel.

Much of Richmond's historical and cultural identity stems from the James River. Affectionately known to locals as “The Rivah,” the James reaches us from the mountains in Virginia's west and travels past us through Jamestown and Williamsburg, headed out to the Atlantic. Richmond's James River boasts the nation's only class V (five) rapids within a metropolitan area, so it is popular for rafting and kayaking, while many other areas provide enjoyment for swimming, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

History buffs coming to Richmond can visit the Valentine Museum, Museum of the Confederacy, Civil War battlegrounds, and preserved plantation homes. Stroll the Canal Walk, examine the monuments on Monument Avenue, or visit presidential graves in Hollywood Cemetery. Richmond is also within a short drive of other Virginia historical sites, such as Monticello, Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Fredericksburg, and a day trip is all it takes to visit Washington D.C.

Richmond neighborhoods are varied. In the downtown area one finds new high-rise condominium developments and condo conversions that revive the city life. The Fan is identified by historic rowhomes with streets that “fan” out toward the western suburbs. Other popular city neighborhoods include Bellevue, Ginter Park, Windsor Farms, and Westmoreland. Outside of the city limits are the counties of Henrico, Hanover, Goochland, Chesterfield, and Powhatan. These neighborhoods range from suburban to rural living, include well-ranked public and private schools, and offer many more business and recreational opportunities.
