Welcome to Venice, FloridaLocated to the south of Sarasota, Venice is a very distinctive town with an almost double-identity. The mainland is an area of economic growth and development, while the Island is a relaxed tropical atmosphere filled with Italian architecture.
One of the earliest planned cities in the United States, the city of Venice has a very ornate history. The Island of Venice has served as a war-time Army Air Corps base, as well as the winter home of the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Much likes its namesake in Italy, which was the design inspiration for the layout of the Island, Venice is known as the City on the Water. With miles of beautiful beaches, as well as the winding Intra-Coastal Waterway, the opportunities to enjoy boating, water sports and world-class fishing are numerous. Known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World, the beaches are the perfect place to go tooth and shell hunting.
The main street area, Venice Avenue, is lined with soaring palm trees and features a central park area that plays host to numerous fairs, art shows, parades and community events. There are also athletic facilities that include tennis and basketball courts, as well as open parks and playgrounds.
Boutique shopping can be found along the main streets and throughout the many shopping centers of the mainland. Outstanding restaurants range in style and fare, including a number of beach and waterfront locations that offer sunset views.
Housing opportunities are as dynamic as the city. Selections include waterfront estates and luxury beach residences to moderately-priced homes and condominiums. | More Local Area InformationCasey Key, Florida, is a barrier island that shares waterways with its neighbors, the Island of Venice to the south and Siesta Key to the north.
