Pasco Washington has a surprisingly rich history. The earliest known inhabitants of the Western Hemisphere can be found in northern Franklin County at the Marmes Rock Shelter near Lyons Ferry and Palouse Falls. Lewis and Clark’s historic journey took them through the Pasco area. On October 16, 1805, they camped at a site now commemorated by Sacajawea State Park.
The completion of Grand Coulee Dam in 1941 also determined the setting of an atomic energy plant at Hanford because of the vast resource of hydroelectric power and inexhaustible supply of cold Columbia River water. Pasco has some beautiful river property along the Columbia River. It is part of Franklin County and just across the river from Kennewick and Richland.
