Tacoma,Washington - The City of Destiny

Tacoma, approximately 35 miles south of Seattle, is located in Pierce County, the southernmost of the four counties that make up the Puget Sound region. Tacoma is also mid-way between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver British Columbia, Canada which contributes significantly to her position as a major regional trade and service center. The Port of Tacoma is the sixth largest container port in North America, handling more than 80 percent of all waterborne cargo shipped to Alaska from the lower 48 states.

Tacoma’s neighborhoods offer traditional family settings in older, well-established areas with distinctive character to gated communities with first-class amenities. Waterfront properties and new condominiums harmonize with bungalows, ramblers, and split-level homes. Whatever the choice, newcomers will find a diversity of housing sizes, styles, and price ranges.

The economy of Tacoma enjoys the manufacturing of lumber and wood products, chemicals, clothing, airplane parts and computers. This region is also home to Fort Lewis Army Post and McChord Air Force Base.

In addition to a highly-respected school district, the area offers Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Puget Sound with branch extensions for the University of Washington. Three colleges serve the life-long learners of the area, Evergreen State College, Tacoma Community College and Pierce College.

The Point Defiance Park and Zoo is among the 20 largest urban parks in the United States and it attracts millions of visitors annually. Outdoor enthusiasts appreciate the 2,000 acres of parks and 350 nearby lakes that support all forms of recreational pastimes. One of the most picturesque places to enjoy the beauty that is Puget Sound is nearby ski snow ski resorts. Tacoma’s natural beauty makes it an exciting place to call home within the Pacific Northwest.
