Tacoma, approximately 35 miles south of Seattle, is located in Pierce County, the southernmost of the four counties that make up the Puget Sound region. Tacoma is also mid-way between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver British Columbia, Canada which contributes significantly to her position as a major regional trade and service center. The Port of Tacoma is the sixth largest container port in North America, handling more than 80 percent of all waterborne cargo shipped to Alaska from the lower 48 states.

The Point Defiance Park and Zoo is among the 20 largest urban parks in the United States and it attracts millions of visitors annually.
