About Tacoma, Washington

Nicknamed the “City of Destiny,” Tacoma is a pulsing metropolis in the heart of the Puget Sound region just 30 miles south of Seattle. With its recent downtown renaissance, thriving arts community, and high-tech edge, Tacoma is a historic city of 196,000 people whose star is on the rise.

Native American inhabitants had been living along the shores of Puget Sound in and around Tacoma for centuries when Euro American settlers incorporated the city in 1874. And throughout its incorporated history, Tacoma has embraced its Native American heritage. The Washington State History Museum, in downtown Tacoma, pays homage to the region's first settlers.

Sitting in the shadow of majestic Mt. Rainier and on the banks of Commencement Bay of Puget Sound, Tacoma is as beautiful as it is metropolitan. Outdoor adventures are a short drive away, while world-class museums, theaters, hotels, and restaurants satisfy the more urbane.

Real estate in Tacoma reflects a wide array of architectural influences. From grand Beaux Arts and Art Deco estates to Craftsman and Victorian homes to mid-century working-class residences, Tacoma features homes for sale for all ranges of buyers.
